Help with funeral expenses
The following information outlines three options available with a description of qualifying criteria. Each option requires completion of an application which we can assist you in completing during our funeral arrangement process. We can also advise on further funds that are available to those who have suffered an unexpected bereavement or find themselves in financial difficulty due to the loss of a loved one. Funeral payment assistance - social fund
If you, as the person making funeral arrangements for a loved one are currently in receipt of a low income based benefit you may qualify for a proportional direct payment of the funerals costs. Those in receipt of one or more of the following benefits will be considered:
- Income support
- Income based job seekers allowance
- Pension credit
- Income related employment and support allowance
- Housing benefit
- Council tax benefit (to include second adult rebate due to low income)
- Working tax credit
- Child tax credit (at a higher rate then the family element)
Funeral payment loan - social fund
If you, as the person making funeral arrangements for a loved one require financial assistance you may qualify for an interest free loan. You will be required to re-pay any loaned monies over a pre-agreed time frame, those in receipt of the low income based benefits above may qualify for a funeral payment loan.
Widows and Widowers bereavement payment - social fund
As an individual making funeral arrangements for your spouse or civil partner you may be entitled to a bereavement payment and/or a widowed parents allowance based on your spouses or civil partners national insurance contributions.
